A question about costumes (kind of poll)

To all the Cats fans who are in the costuming thing: could you please tell me which are the costumes that Cats fans want more and buy more when they have a chance? I mean official costumes, not fan-made ones.

I remember certain costumes being bought for loads of money on ebay (i.e. the final London cast costume of Jemima), but I am sure I have only blurred ideas on this subject. This is an information I need quickly for a very dear friend, so I'd appreciate very much any reply. Also, if anyone could ask the same question on my behalf on the Costuming Forum... maybe the ever so squishable Saffity... pretty please? Pray
Thanks in advance,

Some general observations:
Costumes do sell. though there do seem to be fan favourites (eg: Jemima, both for collecting authentic pieces and for commisioning/making fan made costumes), favouritism does not seem to factor in to the inevitable sellability of costume pieces, they will all fetch a fair price, most will fetch a high price - though I guess what you judge to be a high price is all relative.

The relative price pf one costume sale to the next can sometimes be factorred by the completion of the set - a full costume (wig, warmers, tail, unitard, possibly shoes) will often generate more interest than individual pieces. While an avid fan of a particular character may bid on any single piece from that character, people looking to "one stop shop" for a big, flashy piece of theatre history will also be drawn to a full costume, in additional to fans with access to the kind of funds those things go for.

I think the biggest seller would be something like a complete Bombalurina or Tugger. The clearest, most recognisable costumes which will attract bidders from outside the Cats community, the collectors with big bucks.

For single items, I think well styled wigs sell best? Unitards sell really well too, but wigs are rarer. The more obvious and recognisable the character, the more bidders who want a memento of their favourite character.

*asterix*, beloved one, you are a star and you know it. But I guess I couldn't resist to quote the "ever so squishable Saff" once more... Wink

Belle, thanks for your help. The theory about "recognisability" might be the right one... Smile

That's true although I have an Electra wig and Magenta had one too, we got them at the same time from the same source and Electra isn't that recognisible compared to other characters yet it sold for just over £350, whereas a Misto wig I saw (and damnit I couldn't afford it at all at the time but I'd happily splash out on it a lot now) went for only £200. Electra is more colourful and interesting though so that's probably why in that case.
