A kink in the age difference?Since the baker and rapunzel are brother and sister, and Rapunzel was taken when the baker was "no more than a babe," and Rapunzel was locked in a tower for fourteen years since birth...how much older is the baker than Rapunzel? It would seem to me from this information that Rapunzel is...14? And the Baker, maybe a year older than her, if that, would be around 15? It would seem to make sense, but the baker from what I can tell is way older than her.
Aside from that, anyone else think it sad that the Baker never found out Rapunzel was his sister? Or do you think he ever figured it out? He never complains about his sister being dead, only his wife.

As to your last paragraph, they never met...

Well, I mean, maybe internally. The witch sings her lament in front of everyone I thought? If the baker were there I thought he might figure out the connection...I know it probably sounds like I'm going out on a limb with that, but it's just a thought.

See, here's the thing. Although it's not mentioned in ITW, in the original Rapunzel fairy tale, Rapunzel wasn't locked up in a tower until she was 13 - up until then, she just lived with the Witch. With that in mind, one could argue that Rapunzel is 27, which makes a lot more sense when it comes to the ages of the other characters.
It never explicitely states that Rapunzel was hidden away directly at birth. The Witch only says, "'Oh, don't take away the baby,' they shrieked and screeched, but I did and I hid her where she'll never be reached." All that really means is that Rapunzel is hidden now - it probably wasn't right away.

Okay, that makes better sense to me now. Thanks for explaining that.

Well, that depends on which version of the "original" you're talking about, since almost every country has some version of every fairytale. But yes, in most versions, she kept Rapunzel in her house until she started to become beautiful (folkloric term for "hit puberty," LOL), then hid her, so it stands to reason that she's probably between 20 and 30.

True, but Rapunzel is actually one of the more recent fairy tales - it doesn't really date back to ancient Egypt or China like Snow White or Cinderella. However, since ITW deals with the Brothers Grimm versions of fairy tales, that's the version to which I was referring.

The baker must be very much older than Rapunzel.

No, he couldn't be much older than Rapunzel because it says in the script his mother was pregnant with Rapunzel when he was "no more than a babe" so he couldn't have been more than 1 to maybe 3 years older.

...which puts him between 28 and 30, which seems reasonable.
