A balanced rep

I know it's good to have selections from all the major composers out there, but at the same time, it seems like all of ALW's stuff is really overdone. I'm looking to flesh out my rep and try to get some ALW, Porter, Schwartz, and possibly Kander/Ebb. Right now I'm focusing on ALW.

Which is a better rep choice, Rainbow High or Tell Me On a Sunday. Or does anyone have any other recommendations? My range is from E below middle C to B below high C, and I can sometimes belt up to the C above middle C, but I'd rather have songs that focus on soprano notes. I'm an overweight, 19-yr old character actress.

And if you have recommendations for the other composers, too, that would be fabulous! I already have JRB, Guettel, Ahrens and Flaherty, Jerry Herman, Finn, Bernstein, Rogers and Hammerstein, Sondheim, Lerner and Loewe, and Bock and Harnick and some other random ones.

don't use Rainbow High if you can't solidly belt the E in every verse. It's the only thing anyone is waiting for.

JIJane, are you saying one should have a song or two from each and every one of those composers... or are you just listing every composer that ever lived? I mean, realistically, how could you have that many songs performance/audition ready at all times?

Is the movie recording different? It only goes up to a D, and the D isn't belted... But the sheet music I looked at (though only the 1st page) starts in the same key. Does it change somewhere? I definitely can't belt an E.

And JIJane, your book comes out next month, right? Because I do definitely want to get it.

And the echo WTH, do we really need a song from all of those composers? I haven't even heard of half of them!

the first 2 verses are in Eb then the third goes up to E.

all I know about the movie is that the entire score was dumbed down for madonna and sung very badly. Love her or Hate her, the Lupone recording is how people expect it to be sung. Belting your head off.

Very often you can kill 2 birds with one stone on that list. For example, you can sing a song from Showboat, which is Kern and who else? Rodgers? Or Hammerstein? Anyway, it's Kern and either R or H. So you're killing 2 names with one song.

I'm not making sense. I need my morning doughnut.

The book is now coming out mid September, it is available for pre-order on www.amazon.co.uk and if you pm me I can email you more details. Smile

As for the composers - no, you don't need a song by every single one in your rep hah but those are the main ones to choose from, you should probably have a song from about half of those listed.
