4 main roles

Who would you say that the four main roles are?

Obviously Sweeney and Lovett, but who the other 2?

Johanna?
Antony?
Judge?
Beadle?
Lucy/beggar?
Toby?
Pirelli?

Any others?
Descartes

Anthony and the Beggar Woman, as far as moving plot along. Anthony rescues Todd in the first place, finds Johanna, interrupts Todd when he's about to slit the Judge's throat, which leads to Todd's insanity boiling over. Without Anthony, we'd never have "Epiphany".

As for the Beggar Woman, I'll try not to give too much away. She alerts people to the smoke coming out of Lovett's parlor, which is the reason the Beadle shows up in the second act to investigate. Erm.....she does more, but I can't be tellin' without using spoilers.

I know what happens. I'm in the show (playing Toby) and know what the beggar woman is "all about". Wink

I wasn't thinking about relevance, more "ammount to learn".
Perogo Ness

Toby and Joanna
Descartes

amount of lines or songs? both? If both, are you singing the introduction and epilogue? I'd still list Anthony as a main character then, and perhaps Toby.

I don't know about the beginning. I intend to ask on Friday's rehearsal. In the script is says "man one" and "man two" Hopefully I'll do it.

Epilouge: It's divided up between roles. I sing 2 lines. Ant and Johanna sing 2, Pirelli and Judge, BEadle sings another, then Sweeney and LOvett nd company join in.

Lucky! That is such a great part. I want to play it while I'm still young enough.

I'm 16, 17 in November and look old fo rmy age, yet I still got the part. I don't think age is a huge issue TBH. I may be wrong, though. I'm new to the show. I know in the evival he'd deffo no teenager, but what about in the original?

i think its more about his mental age than actual age. but it could be strange if u were like over 22 or summin

We divided up the opening prolouge between soloists:

Attend the tale of Sweeney Todd,
His skin wa spale and his eye was odd
He shaved the faces if gentelmen who never there after were heard of again - ME (Toby) Applause

He trod a path that few had trod.
Did Sweeney Todd.
The Demon ABrber of Fleet Street - Beggar Woman

He kept a shop in lodnon town
Of fancy clients and good renown - Pirelli

And what if none of their souls were saved they went to their makers impecibly shaved
By Sweeney, by Sweeney TOdd
The demon Barber of Fleet Street - Johanna

CHROUS - EVERYONE

His needs were few his room was bare - judge

A lavabo and a fancy chair - Antony

A mug of suds and a leather strop an apron a towel a pail and a mop - Lovett

For neatness he deserves a nod, does Sweeney Todd - BEadle

EVERYONE SINGS THE REST (apart from Sweeney's solos!)
Salome

Sweeney
Lovett
Judge Turpin
Beggar Woman

Johanna and Anthony although important are the sub plot. yet bothplots are intertwined so thickly.

I would say the 4 main roles would be:
Sweeney Todd
Mrs. Lovett
Anthony
The Beggar Woman (Lucy)

I didn't know that the characters of the cast sing the different phrases in the Prelude. (I thought it was just people from the Ensemble.) Thanks for pointing that out.
