2008 Productions

Hi, I wonder if anyone knows of any 2008 performances scheduled yet ? Can be anywhere in the world, English language preferred but can cope with Swedish ! Many many thanks for any help.

Haven't heard of anything on the grapevine yet, but check www.americantheaterweb.com regularly for productions. I caught one just a few weeks ago near Philadelphia, PA (closed already, sorry to say) that I would've missed if I didn't check that site pretty often.

I saw the same production.. Barn Theatre right?

it was adequate. good molokov and freddy though.

I usually see them for the good freddys
Salome

well..freddy was quite good. short though..had to be like 5'2.

florence had a hell of a belt..but struggled with the role.
Anatoly was very good but when he opened his mouth he had beaver teeth. lol

arbiter was a woman..PUKES!

Walter was flaming

Svetlana was quite good.a bit old for the role but very in the moment.

Arbiter was a woman in this San jose production. didn't work too well.

Straight guys. Would you rather have one butch woman in a pants suit and a bunch of guys doing the arbiters song or one man (like Raul esparza) and a bunch of scantily clad women doing the arbiters song?

I'm actually pretty sure the gay guys will still pick the Raul Esparza option.

It was the same production. I was there for the talkback afterward on the 17th; they had taken the cast to the Lincoln Center to watch the Broadway show, which I think was a mistake. The woman who played Florence clearly had Judy Kuhn's performance on her mind, and as much as I think Kuhn is a fine actress and excellent singer, her performance was done badly. It's a problem.

The guy who played Freddie was good, his acting in the scene with "No Contest" was great. Didn't have the rock tenor voice for it, but was credible. The actor who played Walter was clearly gay, but his portrayal of the character was disconcertingly straight -- it didn't quite work.

I thought the woman who played the Arbiter did a good job with it, and I generally don't mind the nontraditional casting there. Their Molokov really nailed the scene with Anatoly in Act II, though.

LONDON: The Royal Albert Hall Box Office staff are telling people to "check every other day" for tickets for CHESS in concert (with Josh Groban and an all-star cast), which should be available "very soon". Dates being touted are May 12th and 13th.

There's also an audition call for a production in Sydney, Australia - Venue: Everest Theatre, Seymour Centre
Director: Mark Hoath
Details: To be performed in May / June 2008

Also at Fred W. Meitzer Stage, Redmond, WA 98052 there's a production of Chess planned.

That's about it as far as I can find.

Hello all...new to the site, but SO glad I found it. Was wondering your thoughs on the possibility of a High School doing a production? I have a good talent pool, but wondered if you think it's possible? Do you think the age difference would make it unbelievable? Set constraints? Looking for honest opions.

Don't worry about ages too much; if you do then the selection of possible musicals will be cut down dramatically. It's practically a given for a high school musical that the actors will be playing characters older than they are IRL. As for sets? As with any show there's a lot of room for variation in staging, but in this case, I think you could get by with very little, if you don't have a huge budget.

Thanks, I have a nice budget...have the CD but haven't listened to it in a while and wondered other opinions about possibly doing it with High School. I love the show just haven't thought about producing it until now. I am running out of good (non cheesy) musicals to do. Thanks for your help, any other suggestions about this show would be apprieciated.
