I didn't realize that we'd started already. Well, I didn't have a chance to post this before but I don't think that you should eliminate any of the characters, in fact I was going to suggest that we add Johnathan.

After the last election I remember reading how so many people, including myself, hadn't had the chance to post for one reason or another and that was why so many of the characters were left blank. My reason was simply b/c I didn't ever remember seeing a cut off date. I'm sure it was posted but I don't remember seeing it. And I would hate to see the list cut for such a simple reason as people didn't have a chance to post.

Anyway my brain's sleepy so I guess I'll go for now. Happy New Year everyone and good luck. Smile
Flitterbug

I personally think that a shorter list means that only the more well known people who've been here forever will ever get a placing. Well, that's generally how it works anyway, but at least more characters offers the chance that someone new and not so here forever will show up on the final list...

But, hey, that opinion dont really matter. ^_^ *points to banner* Invisible, right?
Spanish_Rumple

Flitterbug you exasperate me... Confused you, and specially you and your art are not invisible at all. Plus, you keep making comments here and there. Plus, you are usually casted as one of the main characters, take a look at your lists and check the different characters you get (not on the final results, I mean the moment when people send their lists).

However, you've got a point on what you've just said about casting only those most popular posters, because at the end that is the easiest thing to do on the one hand, and on the other, because new hoofers are hard to give a characters mostly because you didn't have the chance to get to know them.

I suggest that this time, only new posters should be the ones to post their personality on that post where we usually describe ourselves. We already know Rumblepurr, Ms.Jellicle, Lady jemima...etc (myself included...well, I hope you already know me!). And they (the new posters) should be the ones to ask us if they have doubts about who we are...etc.

By the way Flitterbug: Admetus/Plato is one of my fav. characters because I specially like the rusty colours of his unitard and the make-up design. He's simple but beautiful. And for instance he's got to dance with Victoria at least in the video, I don't know in other productions, and that section of the musical is quite important. I once played Plato (video) on an RPG and it was fun doing it.
Flitterbug

I may not be invisible, but I feel that way. *shrugs* I've always felt a little talked down to on certain sections of the MDN forums (*cough* which may be why I'm a little prickly)... I guess it's hard to think of myself as being known at all when I see so many people who post more often and who know each other so well.
Moongewl

I approve of shortening the cast list. This forum used to be really big in the Cats fandom. When we started the forum casting, I used to not make most lists at all, despite having been around for a long time. There were just that many people here. Now, it's hard to fill all those roles, and usually a lot of those roles go to newbies that have only been around for a week and will disappear in the next week. It's hard for me to finish a cast list now, when it used to be hard for me to fit everyone I thought deserved a mention on one. I look over my last cast list and notice quite a few of the people I casted don't come 'round here anymore. Yes, there are a few that are veterans who left, but most of the missing ones were newbies then.
Belle

Flitterbug, if you were invisible you wouldn't get cast at all. you got voted into the role = not invisible! You seem unsatisfied with being cast in an ensemble role, did you want Bombalurina, or Macavity?

Who is to decide who is a newbie and entitled to post their character description? How can you regulate it? I don't see how it is practicable. But I think it's good to not be allowed to ask to be cast in a particular role, makes the list writers work a little harder in casting by character not request. I think trimming down the cast list would be a good idea because there's just so many on the list right now... but if the casting has started then is it too late to change for this round?
Alonza0

Wooo!!!!! Casting!!!!! Total nerd, guys, but I love it when casting comes around. I'm really excited. Are we doing that whole about us thing this year? Or are we just letting people figure us out through our posts? And my list will be up sometime within the next two or three days.

And Flitterbug, I can't even believe you feel invisible here. When I was a newbie a few years back, you were one of those people that totally awed me because you seemed like such a local here. Lemme see, it was you, Rumblepurr, MsJ, Roxanne, Nemi, Moongewl... etc. And now you're trying to tell me that you don't think you fit in? That really blows my mind. And if it's the not knowing people aspect, you've got nothing on me. At least you've been posting with these people longer than me. You've got me beat, I think.

And now, to remind everyone, I will be conducted the unofficial tally over at freewebs.com/forumcasting. Hope you all stop in!

Belle wrote:

Heh heh, no. I just never notice Admetus, and so I naturally make an ass out of myself assuming that most other people feel the same way (I did notice that not everyone put my name down for him). The banner at least was humour, or attempted humour.

In all honesty I'm not entirely sure there is a role that encompasses the entirety of my personality... Not without a great deal of contradictions in any case. lol Esemble roles are great and all, but lets be practical - you'll never find a role that's perfect for me without combining two or more. *buffsnails* I'm really just that good. That's a joke, by the way... I think this thread has been stroking my ego too much, now I'll be in this silly mood all day.
Swan

Hi, guys... just a short post to let you know I am not going to participate this year, so no need to give me your votes for my fav character.
I still love this forum and occasionally lurk here, but Real Life is really asking for my whole attention in these months. I am going through a very hard time and have no time nor concentration for this game, even though I used to like it very much.
I guess this time someone else will have to take the role of Cassandra and wear her collar. Wink

Geez!! no! what am I gonna do now?....aaaaagh Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

oh well, let's face it.

You know that Wiskas will miss Admetus a huge deal, don't you???? hehe

Be brave on your life Swann and we're here whenever you're in need of some support from your fans Wink

On Removing and Adding Characters

On GHENGIS and RUMPUS CAT, the last casting discussion seemed to indicate that they should be removed. For now, please go along with this. If we get to the end of this one and people seem to indicate that they should be reinstated, fine...

One thought I have on this issue is that these two characters and Bustopher, Growltiger and Griddlebone are all temporary characters that you see once and that is basically it. If their routine is cut, those characters cease to exist. All the rest of the characters remain in the story throughout the musical.

Now on duplicates... Example is Jemima (UK) vs. Sillabub (US). The reason I would still like to see the "duplicate" characters remain is that we sometimes see two members as one character. If there is a duplicate, you can still put that second member in, but as the duplicate character.

Addition of other characters... I realize that both the UK and US casts had several swings that became characters of their own. For example: "George Bailey" and "Olivia". If we added in every swing character that became special to someone, our list could get very long indeed. I think we should remain with the casts that were normal for both the UK (New London) and US (Winter Gardens). My reasoning for this is that these two venues were the MAJOR shows because of their length of run. All other shows have not attained this status as of yet...

Swan? Sorry to hear things are bad, and pray that you know we are here for you...

My two pence...

I just noticed this...
Please don't take Growltiger and Griddlebone out of the casting.

whatever you up to, best of luck Smile
Its been ages since I saw you... ok, I am not often here either. We must mail again sometime-ish Smile I've moved in with my boyfriend and I finally have access to scan that cassandra picture you asked for aaaaaaages ago. I is snail...*hides*

As for the casting, feel free to cast me if you like, or better, see me in a role.

I have never participated, because like others said I would cast people I've known for...geez... eight years... people who have disappeared or no longer come here or who run under other names by now.
Belle

I think Growltiger and Griddlebone are such strong characters, they deserve a place in the character list. However the named swings and duplicates aren't strong personalities in their own right- and the list is huge. Ghengis and Rumpus Cat are hard to define their characters too... Trouble with duplicates tho - if you were to get rid of one, which one? The UK or the US version?
Alonza0

I personally think taking out so-called duplicates is a mistake. One, because they're not duplicates. They may be similar, but read the character descriptions. There are little nuances that make each character unique. However, my main reason is that a lot of people on this board are young. Roles such as Bill Bailey, Tumblebrutus and Plato are perfect for these people, and to get rid of them would limit the number of roles available for new, young fans. I could also ramble about how using Bill and Carby create diversity and learning oppurtunities in a film-obsessed board, but I'll spare you the proffesor-esque lecture. Smile

Oh and btw, I'm also against adding characters like Jonathan and Olivia. I would only approve them if it went down like it did a few castings back, where names like those were given to the four people who had been cast as swings but had the most votes. I liked that idea.

I just meant I am not going to participate the Forum Casting... but I still hope someday I will be back on the RPG. The hard times WILL end, sooner or later, won't they? And I know my Cats-friends are always with me. Smile

@ Akeyla: if you could scan that pic and send it my way, I'd still be very grateful... (swan@jelliclecats.net). Thanks!

Casting! I have to admit, these things are always a highlight for January (oh boy, for this January I NEED this fun distraction).

This is going to take forever for me. I've a horrible grasp on concentrating on doing something.

By the way...

I'm glad to know I'm seen as smart and warm and loyal. I'm afraid I don't show it often. In fact, I don't, except for the loyal thing- I still think about my old friends here and how I owe them for being great people. I can't help but hang around here, even if I don't talk much. Thanks, Alonza0, that brightened up my day so much.

I'm just honestly so glad I'm getting cast. It's seems like I signed up here a week before the previous casting... I guess I'm an oddball.

... Hey! I was called smart! Whoo! *is being a smart@$$*
Flitterbug

So why exactly is it that you need thirty in order to be counted? Is this a new rule, or was it just never enforced in past?

Oh, wait, I know, it's because counting a few extra random votes would be so incredibly hard to keep track of. I mean, heck, it makes so much sense to just say that if you dont have thirty, you're not counted. After all, that can't possibly limit the number of lists (and therefore votes) that people get.

Or, hang on, maybe that's the point?

You need to know everyone and have ideas about them in order to participate.
Rallers

*pawraise* Flitterbug's got a point. Neutral
Rumblepurr

PLEASE READ...

Please read the rules... Before you can get the list of characters, you have to scroll down the CATS Forum Casting Rules. Your posting alludes to this requirement:

Quote:
3 ) All names on the cast list should be filled in to make the tallying up of votes fair... i.e. if only one person put someone down as Victor then nobody else would get a shot so please fill in the entire list. Lists that are filled out with less than 30 characters cast (out of the total 36) will not be counted.

The amount of votes has been part of the casting rules for quite some time. This ruling has been in force during MsJellicle's tenure as moderator of the casting and is meant to make the casting fair. When I assumed the duties of the Casting Moderator, I merely brought in the previous rules from past castings, and then adjusted the number required to assure a positive vote.

Rumblepurr Cool
The Writer Cat.
Flitterbug

In the past that particular rule didn't really seem to be enforced.
Moongewl

It's been enforced for a long time, but usually people fill out their cast lists enough that the tally-men don't press the issue. I think it's there mostly to prevent nepotism. If three or four people(or the same person under three or four different usernames) just fill in the same couple of characters, and use the same forum members, it could sway the vote on those characters. Rather than impose ridiculous restrictions--a person has to have so many posts and be around for so long and prove their intention to remain on the forums and that they're not cronies--it's a lot easier just to ask everyone to submit a full cast list, and in the past that's taken care of the short lists where the members just listed all their friends. While it's been problematic this time around, I think it's another example of the reason we need a shorter list. There just aren't enough people on the forum to warrant a 36-character list.
Rallers

Eh, I'll sit on the fence here again. I'll go with Rumblepurr. Anxious

Um, to avoid continuing that...uh, I recall in the past where some members would describe themselves? Some of the newbies I'm not familiar much with, or who would really be interested enough to be counted, and that's where I'm running into snags with my own list. Is that against any rules now? I was hoping I could do a little description of myself, since I've changed an insane amount in the past year or two...

...I'll go on ahead, I can't resist...

So those who've been around long enough do know that I've a tendency to disappear and reappear on and off. While my interest overall has diminished, I feel really attached to this place, and some members, even though I've lost contact with them and am too shy to catch up. My paranoia's gotten worse since a car accident (only really troubling because I'm horribly jumpy anyway- I've issues with sensory overload, namely with hearing- I cry whenever someone drops a chair, so the shrieking, crunching of metal, glass bursting, screams...doesn't handle well with my lack of coping skills anyway, and that's all gotten worse since then), and with issues of some guy practically stalking me, I kid you not, after being mates with a guy who the near-stalker guy considered an emotional punching bag for him. Let's just say the guy's absolutely insane. He's got Macavity beat in every negative way. Honest to the Everlasting Cat, this guy would kill me if he could get away with it. So. Yeah. I've become a lot darker...kinda...thinking more about death and chances of dying and how someone I love dying to the point that I can't really stand to go out or have someone get out without thinking "oh god they're going to get killed". So I'm always acting insanely goofy and childish, or angry and bitter, when I can, because whenever I don't distract myself or act that way I get those thoughts that make me want to just hide away. I'm the 'never forget, never forgive, because I'm justified' person, I'm the one who always cries or cold or wants to lash out when there's cruelty, acting silly or trying to hide. I'm really contradicting that way. I get very attached to people, usually those who aren't related and are older than me, who I end up feeling an admiration for, and hate to admit it for fear of looking nutty...or nuttier. I'm reluctant to admit I'm a mother hen type- after the crash, the emergency workers got angry at me for disappearing back and forth to check on my dad and brother and someone else in the wreck, and then doing that in the hospital.

Granted, I don't behave or show this much on the forum, because I don't post here much (not much to talk about, really) and because...well, I don't care to talk about it because I have a much cushier life than most people, just got mental and emotional issues here. But I thought I'd mention these just because they've really altered me more than the older members here would recall my behavior.

On a lighter note, I've an obsession for lolcats, memes, and (satirical) comedy and insane fanworks and fandoms, and squealing over cats, dogs, and other generally fuzzy critters (keep the tarantulas to yourself, though, eep).

Yay for angst, insanity, and strange senses of neverending, borderline obsessional humor.
MsJellicle

Just so you know, I have enforced the '30 or more' rule in the past. I usually just pm'd the person who had less and warned them that they need to fill their list out more. I usually didn't have to say anything in the discussion thread...but have posted reminders usually at least once each casting.

~MsJ
Alonza0

It was enforced. MsJ just did it a lot more quietly. If you add the tallies up at the end of the castings though, you can typically tell that she dropped the lists that didn't add up to 32 votes. I don't remember her ever telling anybody out right that they didn't have enough votes, but she did enforce the rule.

I think, as well as Moongewl's point, that the point of it was so that you don't have the lazy person submitting five votes, the newbie submitting fifteen because that's how many people she knows, the lurker sumitting ten votes for his friends who've been around for ages, and the cheater submitting twenty at the end to break ties in favor of her favorite people. That, and I think MsJ or Roxanne or whoever wrote them wanted people to actually think on this, look through the posts to find more people and better info, and submit a thought-out list. But I can definately see why you aren't happy with this and you do have a point. My advice would be to try and get as many as you can (if all else fails, vote for who other people are voting for because they've given it thought) and maybe after this casting we can negotiate to lower the limit a few votes. Because I do think it's kind of ridiculous that poor Vice's list doesn't count when he... she... is only four short.

hey everyone! i'm new to this site and don't really know the specific rules about all the super cool casting forums and I'm kinda scared to say anything that's against the rules right now.. so i just figured it wouldn't hurt to say good luck to everyone! Hope I didn't say anything I wasn't supposed to! byebye
Reeza

I wanted to thank everyone who cast me so far. I know I havent been quite as active, but I'm still around. You guys are the best.
enkeli-kitten

Big thank you hugs to the people who've cast me, even though I've been such a lurker recently!!!! ^^ I'm really flattered to be remembered! I'm in the process of putting together a cast list and will hopefully have 30 parts filled by tonight, because I'm going away for a few days tomorrow and by then the deadline will have happened!! I'd adore to be cast as Tumble again!
Jelliclaw

I'm sorry I don't come here alot, I just have a really hard time being active on multiple sites.
I don't think I'll get cast, but I believe if you do vote me for any role, I am most like DEMETER.
Like her I have many fears, I dislike being alone and always have someone to turn to. Despite fears I am still intelligent. Out of all the Cats, Demeter is just the one I see myself in. When I sing her parts I don't feel nervous, when I dance her parts I don't have to try so hard. I just relate to her, she is me.
Thank you to anyone who will vote me for any part, it means the world to me..

Hey guys,

First off, I do still lurk around occasionally and was really touched to log in and see that I'm still being rememberred and cast - rock on & heaping thanks, dolls Smile

However, I have hesitated to check in the last couple weeks, in particular, as I did not want to just conspicuously pop up during casting time. I think the last time I was actively posting was some time in August or September of last year; in light of that and looking at the lists today I'm going to request (with no ungratiousness implied to those who already have) that I not be cast further as I see other names in the running who've been far more active than me in the last "term". In the spirit of this forum casting, if post quality (which does, to a degree, include frequency) is equivalent to an audition, let's give all the hoofers a chance Very Happy

If I'm around more before June I better still be in the running ;p but for now I hope this post isn't too late.

All the best (& thanks again for the Monday smile)

Okay IDK if this has been mentioned or not b/c I don't have time to read two pages worth of thread BUT...

Is it just me being blind or are the cut off dates for these never posted any more?!?!?! This is the second time that I haven't been able to post a list b/c I didn't see the cut off date!

And now b/c of that the list might be cut down (I really need to read this whole thing) b/c #1) not very many people posted and #2) b/c so many of the characters were left blank! I'm sorry, I know this is my fault but I'm still pissed off about it - excuse my language.

But seriously, are the cut off dates just NOT being posted any more??? Or since I've been around so long should I just automatically just remember these things?
Spanish_Rumple

Tigress I don't know what is the meaning of "cut off date" but Rumblepurr wrote at the beguining of the casting process the date when people could start casting (january1, I think) and the deadline january 14. It was written at the beginning of either the lists or the other thread, I don't remember that.
mastachen

I just realized that MsJellicle listed me for Carbucketty.

It's the only vote I'm gonna get, but it does make me really happy, even though I haven't posted much in the Cats forum.

Thanks Smile

i'm really excited - i just checked out the lists, thank you to everyone who put me up for a role! i love you all!

Well as I said I'm probably half blind and just looked right over it (that's usually the case anway.) I'm not really mad at yall, well not exactly since I think it should have at least been in extra large, bold font so that blind ppl like me won't look over it if we're in a hurry, as I usually am. I guess I'm just really mad at myself.

I just honestly don't have time to sit and read these threads any more the way I use too. There was a time when I would read every word of a thread I was intrested in, now I see the title and just skim through it, as in the case of the casting threads.

And let's be honest, it's usually the same post every time with very little changes unless there are special instructions. But the "cut off date" or "last day to post date" should be larger; like size 18 or larger so that it will stand out.

I'm sorry to harp on about it, perhaps I'm just grouchy anyway but still. I think I have a valid point. (At least in my own mind I do. *LOL*)

But aside from that thank you to those of you who did think of me. I'm sorry that I'm grouchy and that I'm not around much but after what, 10 years I suppose I've grown out of CATS a bit. And now I've got other things I'm trying to get into. I'm doing LOTS of research and planning for things that could one day, I hope, change my life and all my focus really need to be on that stuff right now.

I do miss you all and I am still lurking in the b/g so I've not totally disapeared...
Alonza0

Just a reminder to anyone interested, the unofficial final tally is complete over at www.freewebs.com/forumcasting

And Tigress, I believe the casting always ends on January 14. I write it on my calender so I won't forget. Maybe that would help you, depending on your lifestyle.

Yes I think I'd better start leaveing myself a note. *lol* Thanks. Oh and the link didn't work for me.
