1945 Lerner & Loewe Day B4 Spring in NYC July 27-29

I have learned that the sophomore effort from Lerner and Loewe - The Day Before Spring (1945) - will be presented at the York Theatre in NYC July 27-29 "in mufti". (Their first show was 1943's "What's Up?"). The Day Before Spring was considered "almost a hit" at the time.

Thanks for that bit of info! It should be interesting! I think I'll try to catch that! Smile

"The Day Before Spring" was the production where L&L picked up Franz Allers as their conductor. He stepped in for Maurice Abravanel, who at almost the last minute was unavailable, and stayed with them right through to the end of Camelot. He was key to MFL's success, particularly with non-singer Rex Harrison.

Yes! Seeing the footage of Rex's tantrums at the orchestra, I think any lesser conductor would have totally flipped out!

I've written before about Rex's relationship with Franz Allers, including the (in)famous "White Coat Incident".
