1935 Scrooge on DVD..why not Cinderella 1957?

If they could have put a 1935 movie (Scrooge) on DVD already then Cinderella 1957 with Julie should be no problem...I wonder why they haven't done it yet?

My LIFETIME would be made if they came out with it somehow. Smile JULIE!

I signed the Cinderella '57 petition a couple times, as much as my e-mail addresses would allow and asked a few people to sign it as well.
----
I am such a BIG fan of Julie's and I would LOVE to see it!
It's a classic, and the 1st Rogers & Hammerstein version, besides it was really BIG when it came out. It even broke a record at that time! It's really strange because usually when a tv movie does really good, they put it out on tape or dvd.
Like Julie's tv Movie w/James Garner "One Special Night" it's selling on DVD now.

I agree. I hope the petition helps awaken 'the powers that be' to take some action when they see how many people are interested in this phenomenal recording.

Missing?

Sad I read somewhere that since it was only aired once, most of the footage was lost or misplaced. However, I have seen clips from it so I don't know that this can be entirely true. It would be marvalous to have it on DVD!

If you look on the SoM documentary on the special DVD, there is a short clip of the scene where Julie is singing the reprise of In My Own Little Corner! It made me very happy when I found it, but there's talking over it, and when I matched it up with my CD, It worked for the first minute, but her mouth started moving faster than the words! I think the film was of the pre-show thing, the rehearsal, that is. I would really love to see this, and I hope that all the footage is intact.

I think they've got most of it on kinescope in black and white. I had heard rumours that they were going to release it and it looks like the rumours were true after all! I got this from someone at
www.rnh.com when I emailed them to ask about it for my petition:

> Thank you for your interest. You will be happy to
> know that there are
> already plans to release a DVD of the kinescope of
> the 1957 version of
> CINDERELLA.

I'm excited! I cannot wait for this DVD! Very Happy

Those shows of the 50's shot in kinescope b&w are really not worth the effort of releasing. Their A/V quality is SO POOR, they'd be otherwise ranked as amateurish. However, if there are people like a number of you here, foolish enough to waste your money on inferior product, then, hey, have I got a bridge to sell you.

But believe you me, they are TERRIBLE, not worth the trouble and will disappoint you greatly. THat's why there's no rush to release them.

Looks like they are after all...Cinderella has been out on DVD (released by Image Entertainment) and VHS since 2004 (same year as Mary Poppins 40th anniversary DVD) and we even got special features on the DVD

Fortunately, the DVD has also received the attention it deserves, with a new introduction by Andrews, a 20-minute featurette about the production, including interviews with many of the principals; Rodgers and Hammerstein's appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show a week before the broadcast; and a gallery of color photos of the production as well as promotional material, which included paper dolls of Andrews. --David Horiuchi

plus the show was actually re-broadcast on PBS in anticipation of the DVD release on December 5th. I guess they thought it was worth it. I bought the DVD when it was released and bought another copy for a friend of mine also as a gift. We both still enjoy watching....the quality isn't perfect but the magic remains!

Check out a new "Cinderella" quiz.

I Have It

I have the DVD of the 1957 tv show about a year now and it's wonderful. Love to see Julie Andrews playing Cinderella. She's just great. Found it at Amazon.
