'Shrek' Coming To Broadway?I don't know if its already got posted, i just found it though.
Movie giant Shrek is to be re-invented on the Broadway stage in a new musical. The hit 2001 animated film, which spawned two successful sequels, has been turned into stage extravaganza and will debut in Seattle, Washington, on August 14th before moving to New York's famed theatreland in November.
The show's director, Jason Moore, insists the stage version will be more than just being a re-telling of the first film. He tells an unknown celebrity blogger, "It's the plot of the first Shrek movie. But because we are going deeper into the emotional lives and back stories of the characters, we reveal things about them that none of the movies revealed."

I have heard of this, and I know some people at broadwayworld have been downing it because it is another movie adaptation. Personally, I liked the "Shrek" movie, so I wish them well. The fact that they are going into more of the emotional lives of the characters sounds like it could make it even more interesting(for me). I am familiar with the directors work, Jason Moore, he was the artist director for the Les Mis tour the last two times I saw it and overall it seemed like he did a pretty good job.

why can't Broadway be orginal and stop stealing from Hollywood?
Yes, this has been mentioned. Try search.

Colle, Shrek isn't Disney. It's DreamWorks.

Can't say I'm completely disgusted with the idea.
Especially after hearing that theirs rumors floating around that Sutton Foster is being considered for the role of "Fiona"
LOVE me some Sutton Foster.

I have to admit, I am intrigued by this concept. I'm guessing it will either suck, or be so over-the-top cheezy that it actually works.
Since the preview is right here in Seattle, I'll probably go see it. Especially if the 5th Avenue runs one of their ticket specials for theatre patrons under 40.

The movie was pretty good so it has potential....I guess..
But yeah Broadway/theatre in general needs to come up with something more than adaptions or revivals.

eh, no thanks!
i'm having trouble picturing huge green things on stage singing.
and i agree- broadway shouldn't keep on reinventing movies into musicals, come up with new stuff!

I really hate the idea, but I'm not going to judge it yet

^Ditto.
I agree with some of the previous posts that we need to see something more original, although it seems there are no worthy playwrights coming up with good enough ideas anymore.

It has the potential to be interesting... but at the same time... isn't Seattle (correct me if I'm wrong) the city that produced "Lord of the Rings; The Musical" ? Some movie epics just don't work... The costumes should be interesting though...

I *think* LOTR was actually a Toronto original. I could be very wrong, though. I know it played there, though.
And it might be a different company than the one that did LOTR, even if they're both in San Fran (which we're not even sure of! )!

As far as I recall, LOTR was Toronto.

yeah, it is. I looked it up. still, it's a good parable of why mega blockbusters don't always translate well to stage.

Well, I have to say that this sparks my curiosity. Though I'll probably never see this in real life, I'm curious about the soundtrack. I wonder if, like the movie soundtrack, they will actually use some "actual" pop-hits and what-nots... Curious.
