i'm auditioning for a show this summer - that isnt A Chorus Line - and i was thinkin' of maybe doing "What I Did For Love". my question for everyone is is this a good song for a guy to perform? i think i can sing it well and it doesnt have any lyrics that would make it seem like a female-only song.

what does everyone else think?

The only thing I can say is that it's a great song, a little bit soft maybe, but if you think you can do it, go for it. I played in ACL last year and what I remember there should be no problems for a guy to sing the song...

That poll is extremely random. I picked Dance 10 Looks 3 as my favorite song from the show, but I didn't know that you were looking for a song to sing for an audition and you're a guy. Just FYI, for Rocky Horror Show, I wouldn't sing WIDFL...just because it's a totally different genre of musical theatre than RHS. I would pick something that's either more raunchy or up-tempo. WIDFL is a super sentimental like, reflection song, and RHS is all about sex and having fun and whatnot. Just my ideas. But if you decide, let us know how it goes, k?

Hi, I would have to agree with Cat on this. What I did for Love is a great song...but not for a Rocky Horror Audition. Do something more fun and Rockin'! Try something from Hedwig or Godspell or even Hair. Something less senitmental I'd say. Rocky Horror is a great show. Good luck on your audition and let us know what happens

the poll i put up has NOTHING to do with my question. i love ACL and just wanted to post a poll for fun.

i thought using WIDFL would be good, just for the hell of it. but you're all right, something more wild would be best for TRHS... i'll let everyone know what happens!

When I auditoned for ACL last year, and did the show, for the auditions wer were all made (guys and girls) to sing 'WIDFL' as our initial audition song and it worked out fine, plus when we actualy did the show none of the guys seemed to have a problem singing it either! But I definately suggest you make sure that this song suits the musical and/or role you are auditioning for!!! CHOOKAS!!!

btw I LOVE the ENTIRE montage it is without a doubt the best bit of the show!! That and 'At The Ballet' (but I'm biased ) I'd love to be able to perform it one more time!!!!

ok I just have to say that Hello 12 Hello 13 Hello Love is by far the best song ever written (ok, so not really) but who doesn't love it? All it takes is listening to it for about 4 times, and you're POWin love.

I agree that WIDFL would not be the best choice for the RHPS audition. You want something a bit more wild, maybe something from Rent or similar. My mind is drawing a blank but definitely think Raunch! Of course, if you are going more for Brad you could get away with less raunch and more "gee I'm a dumb guy" thing! good luck! RHPS is awesome!

Well, I know it's late, but if you audition for Rocky HOrror...if you're going for Frank N Furter do "Herod's Song" from Jesus Christ Superstar. perfect. Or Riff Raff you could show off with "heaven on their minds" from the same show. ::shrugs::
