"The Wiz" featurette inspires many innuendos!Dear Musicals.Net Posters,
I watched the featurette which was featured on the 30th Anniversary Edition of "The Wiz". I had always thought that the Dorothy/ Lion pairing (slight pairing) made sense, but the featurette said that Diana Ross had actually had a relationship with Michael Jackson!
I was shocked! Diana was born in 1944, and Michael Jackson was born in 1958! "The Wiz" was released during the Autumn of 1978, but it was probably filmed during 1977 and 1978. Ross turned 34 during 1978, and Jackson turned 20! That means that he was probably anywhere between just barely legal (or a Minor) and 19 when he and Diana Ross were starting a Disco inferno in some hotel! Yikes!
The moviemakers seemed to think that the chemistry between the two was forever obvious. I only noticed a few instances of super erotic chemistry. Right before Dorothy and the Scarecrow sing "Ease on Down the Road," she touches his rear end! If you don't believe me, watch the movie!
Then, during the latter part of the song, "Be A Lion," Dorothy is dancing with the Lion, and right at the end of the dance, the Scarecrow pulls Dorothy towards him with a surprising amount of forcefulness! Wow! Jackson wasn't jealous much...?
Jackson also makes a few sour faces during the movie, and I'm now wondering if he was uncomfortable with the fact that Ross had to get sorta close with Nipsy Russell and Ted Ross.
Of course, Diana Ross does give the Scarecrow a few telling looks.
Thanks in advance for your replies.
