Here is a really good website dedicated to RTTFP.
music is my life!!!

wow! thank you so much! that really helps but is there a website that gives the entire list of characters and voice ranges?

Let me dig around and see!

I couldn't find anything, but I believe a director I worked with was considering doing the show a few years ago and might still have a script...I can ask her if she still has it, but not all scripts have character descriptions or vocal ranges.
music is my life!!!

oooh! if you have the script could you put it on here or pm or email it to me please? hang on, it might be on www.simplyscripts.com ... i'll have a look...

d'oh! i just checked and it's not on there... help... Pray

It's a science fictionalization of William Shakespeare's The Tempest. So in true Shakespearean tradition... (I think) there's only one female role.

As the music is all Rock n Roll (songs like Teenager in Love, Young Girl, Good Vibrations) the ranges are going to be mainly Mezzo-Sop female, and tenor male.

The main roles are:
Captain Tempest (Tenor)
Dr Prospero (Baritone)
Cookie (Tenor)
Bosun Arras (Tenor)
Miranda (Mezzo/Alto) - romantic lead
Gloria (Mezzo)
Ariel (Tenor) - skater too for preference

There are limitless crew roles, but these are the key singers.

It's a great script - has to be spoken well due to the Shakesperian style/quotations, and it's very "Sci Fi B-Move" in style - melodramatic acting to add comic effect.

Good luck with the auditions.

Its a fantastic show. the audience participation part especially.

Ariel is sometimes played by a girl (it was put out in the auditions i went to as being either male or female, i'm not sure how often that is done elsewhere) , so if youre a good skater you could try that. but you have to get pushed around a bit, and theres a sort of fight scene on skates.

Gloria has some fantastic songs- very very dramatic

Miranda, also brilliant songs, a very fun part to play.

Our bosun was a female too, so im suprised that its a male role, only females could audition at the community theatre production. it was pretty high soprano too... so im confused about that one.

Theres also a lot of parts that dont sing such as
Lotta cash - the treasurer
Axel Grease - The mechanic
e.t.c

I'm sure you'll have a blast Very Happy

Don't most shakespearian plays have quite a few women in them?

although back then the women would have been played by young men so i suppose it wouldnt make a difference
music is my life!!!

ok. i had my audition on monday and i think it went ok. apparently everyone could hear my singing from outside and they said it was good so i might have got through...

yay

the acting was ok but i'd sprained my ankle the previous week so i couldn't exactly move well Sad

i found out the 3 lead female characters: Miranda
Gloria/Science Officer
Navigation Officer

i hope i get one of these but i know gloria's gonna go to someone older so i'm hoping for Miranda Pray
Angel-of-Music*

all the navigation officer sngs is "here it comes" in Gloria.

I'm confused.
music is my life!!!

the scene i auditioned the NO had loadsa lines.... Confused
music is my life!!!

ok. so i'm not sure what to think. i got through...

to the chorus Sad

the reason i'm not sure what to think is cuz 2 of my bezzie mates didn't get thru cuz their acting was lame... i should know... i had to do my acting audition with them.

on one hand i'm sorta glad i got thru but i really wanted to be at least the Nav Officer...

on the other, if i talk to my friends about it, they'll hate me for it....

i s'pose there'still the news reporter part up for grabs... what do you think i should do, peeps?

do the show.

Chorus is waaay fun in return to the forbidden planet. except the fact you never go off stage, that can be tiring.

Do you have a narrator type part in yours? seeing as no-one posted that earlier i supposed i would mention it now. probably too late though.
music is my life!!!

i'm not sure. all i know of is the singing parts and also the newsreader (who does like an adaptation of the prologue from romeo and juliet) but that part hasn't been cast...
