"RENT" ?This may sound like a very silly question, but why is it that when serious Rent fans spell it out, they spell it in all caps: "RENT"?
I understand that on the marquee and posters and whatnot the letters are all in caps, but it is the same way for many other shows. Chicago, Wicked, Spring Awakening, etc.
Why do you think theatre fans only spell out Rent in all caps?

All caps makes words seems more important than they actually are. Watch:
I want a grilled CHEESE sandwich.
Yay! Important cheese!

i dont really think it's THAT important for Rent to be in all caps. i just somehow got into the habit. theres a pic of a poster on the documentary and it shows the letters in all smalls, plus underlined.
but, Im sure the biggest of Rent-heads thinks it's mucho important.

I think it could be to make it different from the actual WORD "rent" ...like I need to rent a video. That's just what I've always thought.

Maybe it's an acronym...?

I capitalize many titles in my posts... RENT is just one of them.

^ Cats is another commonly capitalized title. I sometimes get in the habit of capitalizing that one...but never Rent. I guess it varies from person to person.

Yeah, actually. I often do. Sometimes I italisize (sp?), sometimes I put quotation marks, sometimes I underline, sometimes I leave it, and sometimes I capitalize it. I didn't make a hard and fast rule about it... it's just something I do.

There is a rule that all broadway shows with 4 letters in the title should be all caps...
hence: RENT, CATS etc.

I've taken to using RENT when talking about the stage version, versus Rent for the film.
I think it's a personal preference thing.
