Based on the novel by Manuel Puig, “Kiss of the Spider Woman” received accolades on Broadway for its ingenious mix of extravagant musical numbers set against the grim backdrop of a South American prison. The show’s book is by Terence McNally, and the lyrics and music were composed by John Kander and Fred Ebb, the team who wrote “Chicago”, “Cabaret”, “The Rink” and “Steel Pier”. “Spider Woman” took home 6 Tony Awards in 1993, including Best Musical, Best Book and Best Score.
