"I Love the 80's 3D" on VH1

I haven't actually seen the clip yet, but they apparently did a segment on CATS for the 1982 episode of "I Love the 80's 3D" airing this week on VH1. The only reason I know about it is because they do a very quick recap of the topics covered at the end of each episode. All I saw was a split-second view of the CATS video. Don't know what all they talked about, if much at all. I'm hoping they included some cool Broadway clips.

Anyway, the clip should be towards the beginning of the 1982 episode. I've missed it twice already! The good thing is we can count on VH1 to air these shows over and over..... and over. Wink

So, check your TV listings. I'm anxious to see what they have to say about CATS. Sarcastic remarks from B-list celebrities, no doubt, but I'm sure they'll be funny.

Oh, sweet! I'll definetly keep an eye out for it now! Very Happy

Back to late night TV watching.

Same thing happened to me! I apparently turned on the tv right after they talked about CATS because later in the show I caught the recaps clip of it. Grrr..

So if anyone sees the '82 of the 3D version, you're one of the lucky few to catch it at the beginning. Confused

Finally caught the clip today. It's definitely nothing to get excited about. Pretty much all they showed was the video. The only other shot was the front of the Winter Garden and an audio from some old newscast right after the show opened on Broadway. The rest of the time was taken up by the celebrities making mean comments about the show. I think one person admitted they liked it. Some of them wore a pair of cat ears and a plastic cat nose. They made fun of how often the word Jellicle appears in the show. Some commented how creepy it was that the actors came out into the audience and touched them. *gasp*

Anyway, I wasn't impressed. I thought the Saturday Night Live skit after the video came out was ten times better. Wink

They're going to show 1982 episode agin this Sunday at 1/12 AMC.

Does anyone have any clips of the SNL show or a summary?
Cassandra

Basically, the awesome thing about the SNL skit was they actually went to the Winter Garden and filmed backstage and from the balcony. Some of the actual CATS actors were there in their costumes, but they also dressed up some of the SNL actors in the costumes, too. James Van Der Beek (the host that week) was Tugger, Chris Parnell was Skimble, Horatio Sanz was Bustopher, Molly Shannon was Bom, Will Ferrell was Macavity, and Cheri Oteri made a quick appearance as Jenny. Oh, and I think Darrell Hammond was Andrew Lloyd Webber. Not sure who Munk was... might have been Tracey Morgan. Ana Gasteyer was the stage manager.

Anyway, this was back in 1998/99 after the CATS video had just come out. They were making fun of how long CATS had been around, and the skit revolved around the "celebration" of the 11,000th performance on Broadway. Laughing

Ummm.... if I have time later, I can type up a more detailed description. Gotta go for now.

I love that skit! I believe Marlaine Danielle made an appearance in it as well at the Jennyanydots at the time.

Erm, I don't think so. The only real CATS actors I remember are whoever played Victoria and Sillabub at the time; Christopher Gattelli, who was there in his Pouncival make-up (and no shirt.... hehe Twisted Evil); and there may have been a couple glimpses of Demeter and/or Cassandra in the dressing room mirrors. But those were the only real CATS actors. Everyone else in costume was from SNL. I'm almost positive Bom was played by Molly Shannon, and Jennyanydots was definitely Cheri Oteri. I'll have to check my video again....

EDIT: Here's an SNL episode page with a little information. Also a small but cute picture of James Van Der Beek and Chris Parnell as Tugger and Skimble. http://snlarc.jt.org/detail.php?i=6491

Here's Darrell Hammond as ALW in the balcony of the Winter Garden. http://snlarc.jt.org/imp.php?i=72

Yes...any Horatio Sans was Old Deuteronomy I believe, wearing a robe, and Tracey Morgan played Munkustrap. My favorite quotes from that skit:

"My parents think I'm gay....Thanks Cats!"

"I play Skimbleshanks, The Railway Cat. Yep...I'm a grown man and...that's my job."

And James was the host playing Tugger as the only cast member who "still had potential for happiness" cracked me up.

*snort*

Will Ferrell dressed as Macavity, nursing the open wounds on his face, rocking back and forth, wearily chanting, "Jellicle Ball..... Jellicle Ball..... ow."

James Van Der Beek asking about Will: "What's wrong with his skin? Is that from all the make-up?"

Chris Parnell: "Yeah... that, or... he's dying on the inside. We all are."

We just finished watching the 80's clip. Yup, "OH GOD HOW I HATED CATS!" was the refrain. And like..."errr...they are TOUCHING ME!" and all that.

Just showed shots of the video, for show footage. Sort of takes the whole broadway 82 flavor out of it. I mean that's what the London shows looks like presently, not how the Bway one was. At least they could have dragged up some ancient footage like they do with the "Silly Putty" commercials. It would have been nice to see some more old old news footage, instead of run of the mill video coverage. Some of the old footage from those years is still hanging around in the other segments.

Not much to write up about. SNL skit is definately better, funnier and well done. Has been celebs complaining about life is second best.
