"Extra" Enchanted Objects

Did anyone else have these? In mine, we had...lemme see...

Flowers
Vases
A music stand [Me!]
Brooms
Mops

A bunch of things were added to fit the size of our cast. Anyone else have this? How did you solve it?
Fusion_1285

In my school's production (with a cast size of 80+), most non-character people were plates, knives, forks, and spoons, with the exception of Salt, Pepper, and the Chees Grater. For "Human Again", it was just Lumiere, Babs, Cogsworth, Grande Bouche, Pottsie, Chip, and Salt & Pepper. That's about all I can remember...
wheresmyvoice

I was an Icebucket. We rented the costumes from another school and mine was like the worst one they made. It was a plastic trash can with handles and like foil paper put on to make it look royal. No one knew what i was so i suggest not doing that lol.
Beagle On Stage

We didn't do very much in the way of making the chorus into objects. The men were silverware and the ladies were napkins. Then of course Lumiere, Cogsworth, Mrs. Potts and the other leads.
The Drama Queen

In ours the majority of the chorus were forks, spoons and knives, except a few of the adults who weren't very competent dancers were used as a Flower Vase, a Corkscrew (this costume was especialy hilarious during the battle scene where he chase Lafou across the stage) and Measuring Cups. For our featured dancers there were Salt & Pepper, a Carpet (who did acrobatics), the Cheese Grater, and of course, Napkins.
wicked_diva

We had a huge age range in our cast (7-75), so most of the kids were silverware, with the exception of salt and pepper, and two rugs. Then we had an adult rug, 5 plates, 4 napkins, a cheese grater, a broom, a vase, two extra candles, a corkscrew, a whisk... And I think that's it.
broadwaybaby246

the only one we had off of that list was a broom.
Sammy_beck

We had:
Napkins
Plates
Forks
Knifes
Spoons,
Sugar Bowl
Creamer
Cheese Grater
Measuring Spoons
Salt
Pepper
I think that was all of the enchanted objects
Trevor

I was Lefou but I also doubled as an oven mitt.
HortonDoody

I was playing Maurice, but we needed more male dancers (the show was at an all girl's school), so i was also the cheese grater. I looked like a cross between the statue of liberty and a robot

lol, there aren't many shows where you can say that you doubled as an oven mitt. Razz
Savoyard

We had dishes, candlettes, napkins, silverware, a cheese grater, and a flowerpot (who interestingly used to be a professional dancer at Disneyworld before she got married and had kids).

To the continued amusement of I and a few other people backstage was that the costumes rather resembled 60's/70's sci-fi movie outfits. The napkins rather resembled some sort of flying guard girls and the silverware with all their shininess and crown-like headpieces (for the actual spoon, fork, or knife top) looked like royalty of some star-empire.

Have a look on my thread here.

By the way, the chorus playing the enchanted objects made their own costumes, although the principals didn't. See more about THAT on the thread.
princessbelle07

And our plates--you can't forget the plates--looked like playing cards from Alice in Wonderland (except that they were round). Personally, I think we should have made flamingoes to go with the outfits and played croquet backstage.

Though I don't know how playing cards could be fit into a sci-fi movie.... Very Happy Something to think about.

We also had an oven mitt and a gravy boat.
Savoyard

Yes, the plates were lovely but you all just didn't fit with the sci-fi theme. Smile
princessbelle07

That's because we were awesome French showplates (my term--isn't it fabulous?) and way cooler than the rest of you people.

Hey, it's not my fault I got stuck as Gaston. I didn't audition for that role, after all. But I do admit I probably would not make a good showplate. At least not in those dresses.
princessbelle07

I didn't audition for my roles either. (But then again, I wouldn't have auditioned anyway if I had to. I'm scared of auditions. My dance teacher was the choreographer and she asked me to be in it. Lucky me.)

I'd like to see you do the Can-Can with the whole outfit and a plate on your back that's bouncing up and down like crazy. It was terribly hard. Trust me.

Someone told me about Ally, John David, and Corinne (for those of you who don't know them, they played Belle, Lumiere, and Babette, respectively) doing the Can-Can in place of the plates at rehearsal once. I nearly died laughing.
Savoyard

Actually, I think Ben (Lefou) and I imitated the can-can once or twice backstage or during rehearsal, calling out the "un, deux, trois" stuff. Razz
princessbelle07

No way. That's hilarious.
Savoyard

All this talk of our show... makes me want to take out the DVD and watch it now. Except for the sucktastic fight scene we didn't block until the night before.
princessbelle07

If my parents wouldn't yell at me for watching it at this hour on a school night, I would seriously do just that.

I think we should have a "cast reunion" party...other people do too (mostly the crazy nuthead chorus girls, of course, but oh well).
Savoyard

That's a great idea.

Ooh, something else I should do... I think I'm going to run the DVD through the computer into an audio CD for the car.
Savoyard

Ugh, I'm reminded how bad the mics were for Ally and I in the first scene. They kept dying out and by the end of it, we were only able to be heard because of Lefou or Maurice's mics.
princessbelle07

One of the other crazy nuthead chorus girls and I are memorizing Belle's lines so when 2008 rolls around we'll be prepared for cold readings (we're fighting like cats over Belle). You could probably collect a pile of money by making copies of those CDs and selling them to us (and other people in the show, of course), because it would be a great memorization tool.

Somebody needs to suggest to Dr. Beazley that we have a little party. I already told someone to tell her (I don't take from her anymore *cry* so I can't)...but I'm sure more than one hint won't hurt.

We've so hijacked this forum-thingy. *oops* Perhaps we should just create a Ars Nova production post-thingy...it's too late to remember what it's called.
Savoyard

Well you know I have a copy of the script saved to my computer, right? Just use that for your readings. Ally's great, but if you do everything from a recording, there won't be any original art to your performance.

As for forums, I suppose I should do something of the sort since I am webmaster, I just don't know about privacy issues and stuff with setting up a forum site for Ars Nova.
princessbelle07

Oh...I meant on the musicals.net BatB forum, but that would be awesome to have one for Ars Nova!

I do have a copy of the script, which I'm using, but listening to stuff helps with memorizing.
Savoyard

By the way, remind me which wolf/showplate you are?
princessbelle07

Rebecca. My mom helped sell tickets for the Saturday night show--I'm sure you remember that little fiasco. Very Happy
Savoyard

Ah yes, your mom is awesome.

Can we please talk about.... *gasp in shock* Extra enchated objects? This should have all been PMd.

Anyways, we had dishes, cutlery, napkins and tray carriers. The tray carriers kind of sucked though because they weren't really enchanted at all. They were just humans with trays.... it was cool though at the end we all lined up and showed the audience the bottom of our trays. On each bottom-side we had one letter, altogether spelling "Bienvenue" for the finale of BOG. And when the napkins said "...six, sept, OUI!" they turned around, lifted up their skirts, and written on their granny-panties were O-U-I (there were three napkins). It was pretty hilarious!

Check out the video of the production on a previous thread on this board! Very Happy
princessbelle07

Yeah...I know. Sorry. I realized that way too late.

Sincerest apologies.

And... "Oui?" ... Wow. Shocked
Luc

No worries, just a suggestion!
lilprima2b

We had carpets... they were our two acrobats. I'm still not sure how they managed to tumble with like, four inches of arm sticking out of their costumes... it was impressive.

Otherwise, we had forks, spoons, knives, salt/pepper, plates, and napkins (me!).
