"Cats" on "The Simpsons"

There've been five references to the show (to my knowledge).

In the episode entitled "Three Men and a Comic Book", Bart goes to a comic book convention, where he meets the actor who played "Fallout Boy", the sidekick to his favorite comic book character "Radioactive Man" on television. "Fallout Boy" mentions that he had just finished playing the Rum Tum Tugger in a recent tour of "Cats", to which he gets no response.

In the episode entitled "Boy Scoutz N The Hood", Bart and Milhouse get an all-syrup Squishee from the Kwik-E-Mart and go on a Broadway-style romp as a result of too much sugar. One of the things they do is see "Cats", in which Bart shoots a spitball at Victoria. We then hear the sounds of real cats hissing.

In the episode entitled "Homer Vs. Dignity", Mr. Burns' faithful assistant Smithers announces he's written a play about the Malibu Stacy line of dolls, and they're opening in New Mexico. Mr. Burns scoffs at the idea, asking "What's next? A musical about the common cat? How about a musical about the King of Siam?"

In the episode entitled "Old Yeller-Belly", the Simpsons' cat saves Homer from a treehouse fire. When being interviewed on the local news, Homer declares himself a cat lover. When Kent Brockman asks him if he liked "Cats", he says "God, no, it sucked!"

In the episode entitled "The Girl Who Slept Too Little", Lisa is watching an "Itchy & Scratchy" cartoon where Scratchy (a cartoon cat, for those who don't know) decides to go see "Cats" ("That's the show for me!"). After seeing one of the Cats on stage, he remarks that the show is boring and he shoots himself in the head. As his remains splatter on the audience, one distinguished looking lady says "SHHHH!!!!".

Thank you SOOO much for this! I'm not a regular viewer of the show but I knew that they had done at least one CATS sighting on there but I never knew about the others. This will really help when I go to the video store!
Rallers

I did a doubletake the first time I heard the first reference. It was so random. Razz

I loved the Boy Scoutz N The Hood one. Nothing like Broadway-style romps induced by sugar-highs.

...the colors of the cats in that clip though reminded me of mini-M&Ms for some reason. Dancing
