"Alice In Wonderland" makeup

I need your advice as I refine my makeup charts this week for a high school production of Alice in Wonderland. I did these all in Photoshop over the real actor's faces (yes, some of them are doubling characters), so it gives a pretty good idea of what it will look like, though mine will be a bit more precise. Keep in mind that there's still wigs and costumes (I had so much fun making neon blue and pink cat tail..thank you cheezrules.com), these are only the faces. I'm still playing around with some, so please give me some input, good or bad! I didn't post the easy ones like Alice and Mad Hatter, since they're kinda doing their own makeup, but I'll post some pics of everyone in their finished costumes and makeup on my website later. Take a look!

Cheshire Cat...this is his blacklight look

Fish..will have blue and green hair extensions, glitter, and silver gills under her jaw

Frog

Griffon..I really wanted a prosthetic nose for this guy, but it's not in the budget...I think he looks too much like a Mexican wrestler...how in the heck do you make a painted-on beak look good? Any ideas?

March Hare..basic colors..she'll have a prosthetic rabbit nose with buckteeth

Mock Turtle...again, I need advice on this one. I have no idea how to make this poor girl look like a somewhat attractive turtle. I think it'll look better with the green bald cap, though.

Queen of Hearts...I'm not sure if this is the way we're gonna go..I want her to still be pretty, not drag-queeny, but maybe that's just the Photoshop doing that. Maybe more blended colors and less heavy eyebrows? The wig she has on is sparkly red, but you can't tell.

White Rabbit...this girl is gonna be so cute as the rabbit! I also have a sketch of her costume design.

Here's a pic of the preliminary costume sketch. It's based on the white cat in "CATS," since the girl is very petite and will be doing gymnastics. http://img119.imageshack.us/my.php?image=rabbitcostume0nc.jpg

That's all, folks. Whaddaya think?

I think that's really... cool.

I'm really into stage makeup design, and I never thought to lay it out in Photoshop. I usually just go organically, which leads to lots of sloppiness and mistakes...
Genius.

Wow! Some of those are really neat, but very detailed. I don't like the Griffon or Mock Turtle so much. I do however love the door mouse because of its simplicity. Maybe for some of the characters you could do a sort of half-mask thing.

Wow! Thats really cool!
My school is doing the non-musical version of Alice next year for our fall show! I doubt that we could pull off makeup as great as that. I love the way you used photoshop to do the designs.

Re; Half masks

I love alot of what you've done with those characters. As for the turtle, not every character has to be 'pretty' or 'cute' For me, personally, I'd keep him/her the way you have him/her for contrast, otherwise you might right having everything cutesie and alienating everyone. And as for the griffen, using a 1/2 mask would work really well, you could make one for cheap so it could fit in your buget. Theres tons of sites and books out there to show you how to do them if your not sure how to.

For the Chesisor cat, I think two colors would be fine because the blue looks a little out of place when you only put it on hair.

The Queen of Hearts: I like it, but maybe the base of the lips could be a transluent red color that blends with her natural lip color and then do the heart thingy with a real glossy red lipstick. The eyebrows could be a bit thinner. The blush, I would say, apply thinner than you have it on the picture, because that what my eyes focase on. Though I do like the hearts.

I think that is a great idea!!! Who does the costume design?

WOW! your makeup designs are really cool and your White Rabbit sketch is amazing. I've always been in to makeup and costume design; I designed the makeup for the fairies when I did The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe but it wasn't as good as yours Embarassed

I need to get Photoshop now, that settles it Laughing

The cheshire cat is your best design. It's lively and energetic with the curves and outlines on the face while mysterious looking form the cold color palette. The UV reactive makeup will really give the audience a thrill!

The problems you're having with the mock turtle might be because you're trying really had to make it look like a turtle when it actually isn't supposed to be one. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mock_Turtle
It was an old timey pun. It may have the body of a turtle, but mock turtle should be anything BUT turtle

You can go the classic route and make it have a cow/calf head instead, or you could try something original and give it some of strange head.

If you want some ideas, check out what I did for a local production of Alice: http://northfur.timduru.org/fx_makeup/Alice.html
