"...God bless Conrad Birdie!"I don't understand why Mrs. MacAfee (sp?) says this line. I thought she was more or less in the same boat as Mr. MacAfee, trying to protect her daughter. So when Kim screams about how she's going to kiss Conrad, why is her mother so happy?

Because the only thing to get Kim acting like a child, and not calling her Doris, is the fact that she gets to kiss Conrad Birdie. Remember- she shrieks "Mommy!" and then collapses into her arms.
