$5000 for full set of CATS costumes

Has anyone seen this ebay listing? I am not sure its worth $5000, especially if they don't have any pictures posted. Not sure if its real or not, but if it were, it'd be pretty cool.

I'm pretty sure that's for a set from an amature/regional show. Otherwise it would be massively expensive. (Five thou for regional costumes is massively expensiv ein my opinion, but you know what I mean.) That and I've never, ever heard of anyone having a full collection from any one show.

I agree. Also, I highly doubt anyone is going to fall for this. I sent them a short email explaining that the CATS fan community was quite large and probably a lot of them would want to buy individual costumes- especially if there are more pictures. So if they re-list anything with actual pictures, we'll know if they are real or not.

I saw the picture, thought "oooh, those look rather good!" then read the text. It's not those costumes. What a pointless auction - try to flog them once you've got photos of the items in question! I hope nobody does buy them without seeing the actual items and their condition. It could be a very expensive sack of worn-out lycra!

Well, I wouldn't say that it's TOTALLY fake. Paypal has ways to track and prevent shady stuff. And for people to sell it at 5000, if it is fake, then it's extremely risky, because if you get sued, I believe the cutoff to be sued in a small-claims court is 5000. The costs are more than the benefits if this is a fake lisitng and they get caught.

With that being said though, 5000 is robbery and they shouldn't be surprised that there's no bids yet.

I don't doubt that there are costumes, and if you pay your $5000 you will get 40 costumes. But they could be completely worn out, ugly and unusable. They could look almost nothing like the photo to a "trained" (Cats fan's) eye. The un-professionalism of the sale (not even including photos!) suggests the seller doesn't have a clue about the items, so saying they look "really close" is meaningless.

I agree with you. They never emailed me back so clearly, they don't know what they are doing. Any idiot could run a better ebay auction. The listing even states that there will be more pictures, but where are they? Is the buyer supposed to see what they look like after they bid?

Maybe if more fans ask questions they will be pressured to add pictures, or re-list them.

There are so many things wrong with this auction that it's hard to know where to start. Who even lists collections of props like this on eBay, for that matter? I'm sure that there are lots of dedicated places to list this kind of collection where the right audience would actually be looking for it...

I totally support the members of this board bombarding the seller with questions about individual pieces. I'm willing to bet that if we ever see actual pieces of the collection, they will be absolutely hilarious.

Well the auction is over now...if they are smart, they'll relist them for reasonable prices with pictures.

I saw those costumes up for sale and saved my money for a better investment.

The photo listed in the auction was actually one from the Asian Korean Tour from a few years ago. If those were up on ebay I'd be highly suprised! Rolling Eyes

You can see photos from the old auction here:

I mean they are "okay" not great, but it was a high school production.

Feel free to comment. I mean a high school in need would be able to use the costumes nicely. And I do like the casting of the girl Misto! I thought that was cute really!

You know what? These are actually pretty good costumes. I'm not sure if they're quite good enough to make people here want to spend money on them, especially when there are so many excellent tutorials floating around out there...

I'm very impressed with the set, though.
Lady Jemima

Yeah, great set! The costumes I agree are okay. But feathers for fluffies? That's a big costume no-no. Wink

Why are all the cast wearing roller-boots?? Am I missing something?
Belle

Seems they did just for Skimbleshanks' number... possibly a reference to Starlight Express, possibly less intellectual, just putting wheels onto a train.
